Strange things in my sump.

I looked my sump last night and saw these little creatures that look like one celled organisims, or little clear jelly fish looking thins swimming in my sump. Has any one seen these things in their sump or main tank?

If they were one-celled, I'm certain you wouldnt have seen them. ;) There are a lot of small critters that can pop up in the tank, but it's hard to say what you are talking about as most of them arent necessarily free swimming. Can you elaborate a little more?

They didn't look like those in the picture. When I said they looked like they one-celled, I meant if you were looking through a micro scope. They are clear and about 4/16 of an inch. They swim around, but they are pretty slow.

I am trying to find a pic on the web. It might be a cnidarian larvae or some other type of larvae. That is the closest thing I have found so far. I know they are not pods, I have a thousand of those in my tank.

Well that narrows it down to about 9000 different species. I would recommend trying to get a picture.

Likely culprits:
  • Mysis Shrimp
  • Hydroid jellyfish
  • copepods
  • amphipods
  • isopods
  • flatworms
  • nudibranchs

Maybe you can find it on here:

I have similar creatures in my sump, but mine are around 8/32" in size, so they must be something different than you describe.

just to Clarify this is another reefkeeping member using my login madsquables is user name Im not worried about 1/16 terrifying monster.

sounds like something i got in my small tank that i let cycle for a while after it somewhat crashed. I ended up pulling stuff out the tank (to prevent a full crash). then i let it run for a while and those "little jellyfish" showed up.
