Strawberry Dottyback white patch

He is currently in QT. I am pretty sure this patch was not there when we got him...seems to be getting bigger. He acts fine though, eating fine and not rubbing on anything. Thoughts?

That looks like a bacterial lesion. Treat with Furan 2 and Kanamycin together as this will combat a wide range of bacterium and you would have better luck than using erythromycin or tetracycline. If it is TB, it is extremely resistant and no effective medication has been found it is also contagious to humans so careful handling this fish just in case. I would still treat with these 2 meds and see if he improves. Also do a large water change before treatment and make sure parameters are good to improve water quality as bacterial infections can often result from poor water quality.

Also make sure to do frequent water changes and check for ammonia. I would even use Seachem Prime in case ammonia spikes due to the antibiotics affecting the biological filter. And keep an ammonia alert on the inside of the glass as a quick indicator on top of regular testing for accurate ammonia levels. I also like to use API stress guard in my QT tanks to reduce stress and help with their slime coat and heal frayed fins. I use double the dosage indicated on the bottle per the instructions for healing. This may also benefit your fish.

Sadly he did not make it. The other fish in QT seems to be fine. I am guessing I started treatment too late..when that spot first started to appear I didn't think much of it because it was so small....was eating fine one day, next day (treatment start day) stayed hidden and breathing hard, was gone by the next morning.

I had been watching this fist at the aquarium store and he seemed fine. Was fine for first few days after I bought him. QT tank was freshly set up...so where did the bacteria come from? Did it take that long to show up?

What were you treating the tank with? Did you have a lot of oxygen getting pumped into the tank? Sometimes having an air pump inside if there is a lot of CO2 indoors can cause the opposite effect and make it harder for them to breath so I always put an air pump by an open window or in the winter I put it out on the deck and close the door and run a 25 foot air line to a long air stone in the tank. Definitely not any parasite, bacteria can act very quickly too. I had a clownfish once that just about completely disintegrated within 2 days from a bad infection.
