Strawberry shortcake

Well, sad morning, the Strawberry Shortcake RTN'd overnight...just like the others I have tried. The other frag sitting next to it, an Aussie echinata looks happy as can be. Go figure.

I've got one coming from Reef Odyssey...looked real nice on the his Facebook pics!

Last one I got did real well for a few months, then randomly STN'ed...

For people who have been having luck with these; what kind of placement are you guys going with?

approx 14 inches from a 150w ushio 20k bulb. colors is a almost a yellowish lime green color with really bright red tips on all the corallites. great color but slow growth with that distance. got mine last Oct and all it has done is encrust.

My ss is doing very nicely.

Beautiful SSC :D.

I am trying one more time. Ian over at Reef Odyssey sent me a really nice small colony. Two days in, so far so good. Color is super nothing....but I am sure once it settles in and survives more than a week it will color up. Gosh, I hope this one makes it for the long run.

I picked up my first one in Sept. of 2010 From John at YOUR REEF in Roseville this one has held it's darker green base and bright pink coralites this is a shot from Dec 2010 I just took a look at it after reading this post and it's brighter now than befor.

This next one was picked up in Nov. 2010 from John also it's from a different colony.
This one has held it's lighter green base and the coralite's are lighter pink but the polyp exstension on this one is 24/7 this pic is also from Dec 2010.

Sorry for the bad pic's but it give's you an idea on size they are both now starting to grow out the first one started encrusting the plug in the first month none on the second one yet

They are both at mid tank under 250 Watt Radium's run on Galaxy ballast and heavy flow.
I will try to get a buddy over to get better updated pic's.

Ummmmm, I wish it was only the third try :(...more like the sixth try. Two of the six tries were vendors sending me out replacements. Why do I keep trying??:hmm2::hmm2::worried2:

This will be the last try for sure!!! If it holds for a few weeks I plan to frag one of the branches and place in my nano reef, that way I have double the chance of keeping it going.

Received my 1 inch frag from UC today. Very disappointed, it is brown and dead portion at the base. The dead portion does not look like it happened during shipment. Not so optimistic on this one. Should have listened to you guys :(.

I even see new poylps starting to build branches out of the encrust. i also will say i have mine bout 18" under 250w xm20K lots of surface ripple, med-strong flow. 10dkh, ph 8.3-8.4 76.5-77.5 degrees 7 hrs of light. NO Zeo

I agree with those above give it some time it could very well bounce back.
I've had a few Acro's bleech out then turn brown then green then back to it's normal color.
I really don't trust buying any coral's or fish online.
I feel very lucky to have a great LFS down the street.
I was just there tonight and the owner was on his way to pick out some more corals and fish in the morning can't wait to see what he come's back with he always gets choice stuff.
Good luck with this piece you got I hope it come's back.

I would like to know too! It seems the mortality rate of small frags is high. There is a someone locally selling 1 inch frags. With the price high, Im wondering if its even worth it.

i have a question i am a little stumped about... and perhaps you all can help, or some of you maybe...

i have been looking into SSC's and it seems that two come up that are very similiar, to me at least... one is SSC, and the other is Strawberry fields acro... what is the major difference? and are they both from australian waters?

please help guys, i dont know if the pics here are jus of the SSC or the S'Fields as well mixed... any insight would be awesome... plz and thanks!
