Strawberry shortcake

hey evolutionZ, is that a Mitras you are using?
i just got a ssc frag and i have it under mitras as well.. its very low in the tank and currently has no colour..

Is there only one tricolor? One blue tenuis? Strawberry Shortcake has simply become a common term for a very common coral(s) with a common color theme. So tell us, what makes one real and one not?

EDIT: Holy thread bump...

Ok let me try and answer this in a very simplistic way......the true Oregon tort sps....can you buy the same sps with out the name and they look the same?

Answer.....there is only ONE true Oregon tort

I hope I answered your question

Wait, you mean there are no more true oregon torts left in the ocean? :sad2: They must be extinct along with the black percula...

Seriously though, ther are several color and growth variations of SSC that are a dime a dozen, so your comparison doesn't make much sense. Also, this coral is highly variable in appearance depending on conditions, moreso than many common named corals in the hobby. So, this TRUE strawberry shortcake stuff from you looking at some pics doesn't make much sense.

Lastly, oregon tort has an interesting story and a long history of being cultured. Strawberry Shortcake is what someone decided to call some frags from one of thousands of colonies that have been imported since Aussie SPS corals started getting imported.

It's like a zoanthid collector telling someone with eagle eyes that they don't have the true eagle eyes...

The difference is strawberry short cake is just a wild microlados that people call by the name of SSC. It's very common and east to acquire.

They are not importing the oregon tort anymore. Infact the oregon tort came in ONE shipment and never again. It all started from one colony that spread through out the country. Ora got there's from oregon, people in newyork got there's from oregon...unless it came from oregon it is not true linage.

Your correct again about the zoanthids

Tell that to everyone who has true Purple People Eaters and my favorite true Spider-Man zoos that I am still looking for.

Did I answer your question now?

I went to a local wholesaler that I was turned onto and he had an SSC the size of a dinner plate. He also had three others and a bunch of frags. He also had something called blueberry SSC that was smoking. I didn't buy them because I picked up two other colony's that I had to have. I will try and post a picture of it later tomorrow few aging incredible. It's really not rare anymore that's for sure.
