Strawberry shortcake

I have a couple of frags of SSC. One from UC and the other one from Mr Coral. They have different colors. The one from UC is mint/highlighter green with pink coralites and relatively shorter tentacles (the one finger sticking out), the other one is dull green with orangish coralites with longer tentacles (Mr coral). I like the one from UC better.

What are the frags looking like when they arrive, besides being DOA? Are they encrusting on the plug, at the very least?

i have a question i am a little stumped about... and perhaps you all can help, or some of you maybe...

i have been looking into SSC's and it seems that two come up that are very similiar, to me at least... one is SSC, and the other is Strawberry fields acro... what is the major difference? and are they both from australian waters?

please help guys, i dont know if the pics here are jus of the SSC or the S'Fields as well mixed... any insight would be awesome... plz and thanks!

please forgive my lack of knowledge, but are you last 2 posters agree'ing it is a strawberry fields? the structure seems very close to the google'd images i have looked at, but of course the color is not the same... but strawberry fields, sarmentosa's?

Pallobi, I am not familiar with SF, I was just IDing the coral. That is the general appearance of a common sarmentosa if you place it in intense MH lighting. Their tips turn pinkish-orange with green body, polyps and coralites.

Here is my ~1 inch frag of SSC. The tips are a little more red than the pictures show, but it is a fairly recent cut and introduced frag.

thanks for sharing mighty :) i ordered one this weekend, and it will be here tomorrow...

congrats

Picked up a cool little frag a few weeks ago from Jason Fox, when he came to a local frag swap.

Coloration is pretty good, told me to put it high in the tank as he had it under a 1000w MH.

i have a question for everyone... i recently acquired a SSC from cultivated reef and im curious... i have read somewhere that SSC's do not have long "tentacles" on their polyps... the SSC i got seem to have polyps that can extend quite a bit... like a 1/4" or maybe even a bit longer... does this affect its authenticity or stirke concern with anyone for any VALID reasons? im trying to determine if its legit or not... colors and shape appear to be correct, but i am not 100%...

plz help, ill try to get a pic up

They do have one long tentacle on each polyp similar to millipora, panniculata and others. I got mine from UC. It was a disappointing 1 inch brown unencrusted frag with tissue loss at the base for $50. It pulled thru and it has become my favorite. Check out the pic on UCs site, you will see the one long tentacle on each polyp. Mine is white, I think theirs was fixed. IDK.

I dont know why but I dont have luck with this coral. Ive tried it a couple times and both rtn on me even after having nice coloration. All other sps seem fine

that is one horrible looking frag when you got it... clearly you have done well... i understand sps are sensitive in most cases, but kudo's to you for sticking it out with your original... if i ordered from someone and got that kind of quality when it arrived to me, i would have made a phone call or two... i realize these are living things and there really cant be any guarantees, but i mean come on, thats a rough one... again, congrats to you for bringing it back Whisperer
