Stray current

I have lost tanks. Puppy ate the heater cord - copper. Heater failed and burned in the sump. Power out 5 days and I didn't have enough watts of heaters 2000w wasn't enough.
None of those events killed everything. Just most everything.

I would be surprised if the ICP shows much of anything. At most it might tell you if you have unusual elements in the tank at high levels.
Iron, molybdenum and zinc. Oops I dropped a hose clamp in the sump.
I never had the mystery death thing you are having over a few weeks.
The things I had were only hours to major problem detected. All the snail and crabs lying on bottom dead.

Ok so for those who were curious I got my ICP tests back and these are the levels that were bad. Would this cause a complete die off? If so what would be the culprit?

AI thinks its my salt mix however I did large water changes with different salts when I noticed things were starting to go bad. My TDS is 2ppm into the DI and 0 out so I can rule out my rodi water.

I think you might be onto something re: Zinc.

First all the inverts, then the corals, then the fish. I do not think zinc killed all those things. And the problem of a Single ICP is you don't know what's new and what's always been there.
Magnets leach iron or rare earth elements. Not zinc. Zink with iron is a galvanized or plated piece of steel.
I think something that would kill all those types would be some kind of organic poison that is building up over time like an air freshener. Something sprayed in the house even in another room. Something on the hands when placed in the tank.

Call Sherlock Holmes.

I’m just going to tear down the system and exit the hobby
I suppose that is one way to deal with this but anyone who has done this a long time has lost a system because of things beyond your control. Power outages, a vacation when the person that came in never put any water in the tank. An exploded heater, I guess it's 3 for me.

It's about having some sea in my life. So I have tried and tried again over the years. Now I have a machine that adds the water. We have a whole house generator. I use Eheim Jager heaters, Nothing else. They may stop working but I have never had one fill with water and short out and burn. And yes it hurts. It's quite amazing how much a human can invest emotions in a little fish or shrimp and even the little pods in the tank.

Sometimes you can be perfect and lose in life.
And sometime your cookies turn out just like the pictures.
Practice makes perfect.

I have multiple diseases any one of which stops most people. I might even be getting a new one like cancer.
So I went and bought my first new off the lot BMW Monday. No one else's farts are on my seats.
Be tenacious.
Get, make, play as much as you can. We all die. The one that dies with the most toys wins.

I’m with you. I’ve had too many crashes beyond my control. It’s a learning experience. Still in the hobby since the early 1980’s.

I feel defeated and I would be more likely to start over if I knew what happened. I don't want to kill anything else, I feel terrible.

Completely understand. Been there and done that but, I knew what happened each time. Really sorry you had to go through this.
