stream 6000 in a 65g

i know you dont seem keen on using the larger stream pumps in a 65g, but wanted to know if you thought this was possible.

i would like to place the stream within the rock work, say mid tank pointing slightly upwards and to an oposing corner. this way the stream is "hidden" and creates a flow that is angles upwards and to towards the glass.i would then use it on pulse with varying speed depending on what seems best.

im hoping to achieve a nice surging flow that is broken up by the glass creating different channels of flow wrapping aroung the tank while avoiding sand disturbance and hitting corals with a strong direct currents.

how do you think this will work?

how often does the stream have to be serviced? enough that it makes placement in rockwork to laborious?

i do plan on getting nano streams and placing them in areas of the tank that have dead spots. and then possible swapping out the larger stream for the controllable nano.

this is meant to get me by till the nanos arrive and prove to be as good as the larger streams while reducing the numerous smaller powerheads that i would need to get similar flow.

Sorry, sometimes one slips by.

I wouldn't place them in the rockwork as they need to be cleaned every 3-6 months.

You can turn down the 6000 so I think it could work fine but I wouldn't do it if you will have a lot of Euphyllia type corals or fine sand.

FWIW, I have a 6060 in my 65. It's in one corner and bounces right off the glass. No problems at all with it and lots of random/chaotic movement.

i have a 6000 in my 58 barebottom-still looking forward to swapping it for a couple 6055s...for more back-and-forth action. otherwise it works fine. the magnet holder makes it much easier to position-and remove for cleaning.

thats a lotta motion! im hoping the pulsing action of a single 6000 will create a more radom flows as well as being on the more gentle side, if necessary.

id love to get my hands on the nano streams, but ihave a feeling they wont be widely available till 2007. i figure this is a better stopgap than 4 maxijets.

last question, from the video it looks like the streams are very positionable when on the magnets, am i seeing correctly? is there a swivel platform that connects to the magnet holder???

Nice vid Mayoboy. That would've been helpful back when I was considering Tunzes for my 65g.

FYI, I'm running two 6000's with the 7095 controller on a 65g BB now. I have a couple of euphyllias and clams and the flow is fine.

gil, what programs are you running? how dialed down do you have them?

any pics of both running in the tank? id like to get an idea of how to hide those bad boys.

Nemo G At one point I had a 6000, and a 6100, in a 45gal:eek2:. Had to dial the 6100 back, and had to use a controller. But this tank had a lot of rock in it...
So anyway, it depends on how much rock is in the tank.
