Stream Kit TS07

Hi Roger,

Does anyone have the Stream Kit TS07 (6010) in stock?
If there is a waiting list, about how long (time wise) ?

Thanks

No one will have them in stock, the wait will vary with who you order from but I would say 6weeks on average.

Ok, Thanks. Before I put my name on the list I would like to be sure that this is the best option for a 75 g, DSB, mixed reef as compared to the TF04 Electronic Kit. From my previous post it seems you gave the edge to the stream kit over the powerhead.
Sorry to re hash this, just want to make the right choice.

In your last thread you said it was going to be a predominantly SPS reef in which case the Stream is the way to go. If you have changed your plan to a mixed reef and will be keeping mostly soft corals, LPS or anemones the TF04 would be the correct choice.

Roger,

I currently have a mixture of soft and some SPS frags which I will be moving into this tank. No anemones planned. I hope to do some "weeding" and eventualy end up with mainly SPS and hopefully a clam or two. I have a basic LR configuration in the center of the tank so there is room for flow around all sides. I guess I still don't understand why the Powerhead is better for soft corals? and why the stream would not be ok for everything?

The flow of the Stream- a broad low pressure flow is more relevant to the flow naturally occuring on the reef slopes where mostly SPS and certain leathers are found. The flow is high here as the water is rising up over the reef structure and as it is confined it is accelerated. The problem you will see is that the Streams move the whole tank, it is more involved to establish quiet zones for certain LPS that will not extend fully in a high flow situation. Leathers do well with the Stream because it helps them slough the mucus coating. Soft corals like colts generally like a calmer flow, the advantage of the 7400/2 is the tank will be more stratified- you will have a high flow area where the water exits the pump and on that horizontal level of the aquarium and then where the water rolls under and bounces back after hitting the glass you have a far more gentle flow that is more suited to LPS and softies. Clams generally don't care- so long as they are not eating sand- you can tell by the differences in shell morphology that some maximas were absolutely getting blasted as they have robust smooth shells. Others were getting lower flow as the shells have greater dentition and are taller. For anemones there is much less risk they could be damaged by a properly set up Powerhead with a broad intake installation hidden under the rock structure. A Stream could injure an anemone and anemones like cross currents not direct currents and it is easier to aim a standard powerhead to go along the sides rather than at an anemone. With the Stream, the tank will have a more lopsided appearence as the SPS will be on the side nearer the pump and the LPS should be on the other side of a rock barrier on the far side. The soft corals should be more in the middle and somewhat out of the direct path of flow. When we developed the Stream it was very purposefully designed to create the flow typical to SPS formations and reef trenches inhabited by many colonies of leather corals. It is also suitable for very large aquariums that otherwise require too many of a more standard powerhead. The 6000 is going to move a 4 by 2 by 2 ft swath of water. The 7400/2 is going to strongly move a 6-10" by 7ft swath of water and given the length of your tank the flow will bounce back creating a more gentle roll back current under the main current.

Rodger,
Thank you for your time to give me that excellent comparison between the 2 systems. It really helps in seeing the difference between them! Is the supply of the TF04 (7400/2) the same as the streams (waiting list?) or are they available? It seems that its
the way for me to go. I only need one, right?!
