Stream putting electric charge into my tank.

I would suspect if the halides are a retro or the VHO's that somewhere you have some salt creep carrying current into the aquarium. This tends to be an issue with retrofit type fixtures. Thoroughly clean the entire assembly and check for any loose connections. Also, verify the sockets with an outlet checker as I discussed- you may be amazed to find out more about the wiring in your house, I know I was and I redid several cicuits after getting one of those. Then try the pump with no lights on the tank and see how that works but please be very careful- what just barely tickles with shoes on could kill you on a wet floor, it takes only 1/10th of an amp to kill someone and I would consider consulting an electrician.

Also, ground your reflectors to the ballast housing and use grounded cords to your lights but you must verify that you have a proper ground at the outlet first.

I don't know on that, it is not the fault of the pump and this is an issue you still need to resolve regardless of the pump. I don't think Marine Depot will take a return on something that is used as is the policy of most dealers, you would have to check with them. All the same, it is a situation that does need to be repaired whether you get rid of the pump or not.

This may or may not help. You really need to check out the lighting and the sockets to be sure they are proper. I wouldn't take a shortcut on this, it is your safety and your house that is at risk. If you have a short and it gets worse from slat creep or moisture you could get shocked worse or start a fire. It won't take but a few hours to clean everything and tidy up and test all your wiring. You should also install a GFCI and after all this a ground probe wouldn't be a bad idea.

I don't know but you said yourself it didn't shock you on it's own in a bucket so the problem cannot be the pump. It has to be something else and you need to find out what. If you still have doubts you can send me the pump and I can verify every detail of the electricity consuption and check for stray voltage- I can even print the results and send them to you. I have never had a Tunze pump shock anyone and we know it isn't the pump releasing the stray current.

Yea but its worthless to me because it is not compatiable with my current reef. Someone will buy it off me.

Did you try it with your lights off?
If you did & still getting a shock, try this run a long extension cord from the outlet you used with the bucket, use that cord directly for the Tunze!

Sunnyx,

I think you're missing the bigger picture. If it isn't the pump, then whatever is causing it still needs to be fixed. Stray voltages in the tank are dangerous. It appears the Tunze pump brought this to your attention. I would really recommend following Roger's advise for your own safety.

sunnyx, you are missing the big picture... you have stray voltage in your tank... you need to fix that problem
