Hi All,
So I've decided to go with a dual stream setup with the multicontroller for my new 6ft Oceanic 150 but am on the fence as to whether to go with the 6000's or the 6100's for my particular application.
The tank is 72Lx18Wx28H and will hopefully be home to a nice mix of clams, SPS, LPS and softies. The only flow in the tank is currently from the dual 3/4" returns fed from an Iwaki-100RT in the basement which I estimate to be between 900 - 1200 GPH total. I'm not yet decided as to whether I will be installing the streams on each end of the tank (directly attached to the inside of the canopy) or on each overflow. If I install them on the overflows then each stream will be a little more than 5ft from the opposite end of the tank.
My LFS (whom so far really hasn't steered my wrong... no seriously!) says that that much flow would "tear any softies to itty bitty shreds". I explained that they produce a much broader and gentle flow than a standard powerhead but he still told me that the 6100 was overkill. He admittedly has never seen them in action but then again neither have I so who am I to argue? My fiancee is also shaking her head in incredulity at the sound of that much potential flow in the tank although she's the one that's pushing for the clams so we're not counting her vote right now .
So what do you folks think? Are the 6100's ok for this application or would I be better off with the 6000's? I'm all for the 6100's but I could definitely use a nudge in the right direction from those of you that have more experience in this than I. If they are installed on the overflows would that make a difference since they would be that much closer to the opposite end of the tank? As long as I don't end up with "itty bitty shreds" of anything in the tank when all is said and done I'll be happy
Thanks for the advice!
Glen
