Streams and Fish

Hey Roger,

Do fish have problems with the streams (2 6100's in my case)? I've noticed that sometimes when the streams switch that the fish will get blasted by the one just starting and get startled. Will they be okay and will they get use to them? Thanks.

I think it will be fine, they experienced at least that much flow in the wild but they need to readjust.

Hey Roger,
I have a related ?. I have my 6000 w/ 7094 controller plugged into a Digital Aquatic Reef Keeper on power head mode. On this mode there is a soft start feature where in the power head, or in this case the 6000 is suposed to start up slowly to reduce wear & tear on the equipment.
It is relatively difficult to assess if this soft start feature is working on the stream. Do you have any idea if the components of the stream & controller are over riding this soft start feature? BTW, I have the controller set at the min. 30% flow rate.

Soft start features are BS. They slowly increase voltage. A sychronous pump is either on or off, their is a threshold where it starts, it cannot spin slower because it gives less power, the pump spins based on the Hz which is constant at 60. At about 90V the 6060 for example will start and at full power 3600rpm. We always test this when new pumps come out so I have a lot of experience running these tests. In this case the pump is electronic and my main fear is if they really have such a feature and it isn#t just advertising jargon, it may harm the pump.

Roger - the guys have gotten use to the streams, just took them week or so. Now they even pick algae off of them. Thanks again.
