Stress-Coat for filtering tap water?

Will I be okay using "Aquarium Pharmaceutical Stress-Coat" on tap water for my 29 gallon instead of investing on a RO/DI unit?

No. Stress coat mainly neutralizes chlorine. It does nothing to rid your water of impurities.

But it says that it gets rid of heavy metals, chloramines, etc

If you don't want to invest in a ro/di unit then find a local pet store that sells ro water.Don't use tap water trust me.

thats a kick in the pants Oh well I guess ill just go with a freshwater setup and try marine in a year or so. With all the water changing, top-offs, emergency water change, I dont know if I can afford to buy water from a shop. Then again i could go for a unit but that still costs with the filter changing every month and so on.

i think tap water is ok depending on where you are...

my lfs has amazing tanks and they use tap water for all of it... just prepair it few days in advanced..... im using tap water and it hasnt been any problems...

like i said.. i think it completely depends on where you are.. but if you are not sure, run a few tests on the water and see if all the levels are safe.

I live around the toronto, Canada region and the TDS reading is averaged at 125 ppm

I use tap water for my 55g FOWLR for 4 years and have been pretty lucky but my phosphates do run high. It definitely depends on your local area's water but be aware that can change week to week or month to month !
RO/DI units are the way to go if you can afford it!

I picked up a "Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap water filter" for my biocube . It is suppose to produce 25 to 125 gallons of perfect water depending on you water. I am still on my first cartridge and have gotten 65g so far ,judging from the color indicater on the filter I might get 10g more.
If it stays at that rate all year round I will be happy . The cartridges are about 20 dollars a pop!

Eventually i would like a RO/DI unit ,but for now this will have to do!

BTW , if you do test your tap water let it set for a few day some of the chemicals the treatment plants put in the water can bleach out your tests.
