Striped Damsel Vs. Clown

Would, is the key word. Clowns can be very passive, to semi-aggressive. I think most reef fish should be labeled as so. It can be a hit or miss if you have a passive one or not.
Everyone says "damsels" are extremely aggressive, yet is the most skiddish fish I own. Even my little Pajama cardinal plays with him.. I've also owned clowns that were extremely passive, wouldn't harm, touch, or chase anything.

A couple of years ago I had a 3 stripe damsel in my 75, I also had a mated pair of Clarkiis. Even if they were on opposite sides of the tank, if the 3 stripe was seen by either one of the clowns they would chase it back into a hole. It would only come out to feed.
I personally wouldn't try to mix the two.

Wow, interesting. I have a 4 striped with mated false percs that get along just fine. However, they all grew up together since I started the tank so I'm sure that makes a difference.

It's kind of like buying/adopting pets (dogs/cats). You can assume one behavior, but you really don't know what your going to get. The same can be said about fish. MOST fish are peaceful, but you'll have your "duds" that are just way out of line.
I also agree with Todd AND Eddie. Weird, huh?
If the clowns are bigger than the damsel/chromis, at initial introduction, and both are introduced around the same time, I feel this would be the best way to do it, however like Todd said, it isn't exactly the best choice.
If your looking for small, colorful fish, there are actually quite a few nicely colored chromis, which don't get very big, and tend to be far more peaceful than most damsels.
I think the OP was asking if the could be mixed IE bred together. expressing thier belife that the offspring would be agressive.
If that is the question, I would also like to know the answer! I would like to breed giant clowns by using Garibaldi of some other large damsel, I hear there is a 14" one in the wild!

It is important to consider that a 3stripe damsel has the same number of stripes and a similar contrasting appearance wich makes it extra offensive to clownfish. I would think better odds could be achived by choosing a damsel that doesnt appear to be a clownfish

That sound's like a compliment. At least I'm going to take it as one.
There's just SO many things to read, research and learn (since I love learning things) it just becomes addicting. The more threads I read, comment and learn from - the greater my knowledge.
