Stumped

I'm stumped. I have Leathers, LPS, Shrooms, Star polyps, SPS, Xenia, and zoas in my tank.

Everything is perfectly fine except for some of the zoas. I have SSG's that are fine and have been in there for a while. Some Orangeish red ones that seems to be okay from the swap Sunday and then I have these green deamon eyes that opened up Sunday - Tuesday but haven't opened since. I've also had zoas of differnet varieties that haven't made it either. What the heck is so unique with my tank that I can't keep zoas but can keep everything else? I've had the zoas at all different levels in the tank and it doesn't seem to make a differance. I just can't get them to survive other than the SSG's for a long term period.

What is the ph? IMO, if pH is too high they will not usually open. Also has any fish been bothering them?

Not sure on the peak it's alway been around 8.3 no higher than 8.4 when testing and no lower than 8.2. I have one 1200 gph return and 2 1200 gph maxi's currently in the tank.

2 1200 gph maxi's currently in the tank. - no such thing.... Are you sure you return is 1200 gph? You would need at least two 1 inch drains to handle that much flow through your sump. But I doubt this is your problem. You may need to move your power heads around a little so you get more cross currents.

Last time I check 0 0 0 on the amonia nitrite and nitrates. Calk is around 440 and alk is around 4. Sigularia (if it's a sigularia) is only around an inch in size and certainly not slimy.... oh forgot to mention the sponges but doubt they would have anything to do with it.

alk is around 4

What are you dosing for alk? If your dosing a pH increaser, your pH may be higher than you think. Test kits are unreliable are you using a pH probe?

I just can't get them to survive other than the SSG's for a long term period.
Are they disappearing, dissolving, do they develop a white film/fungus? ever check for nudis or sea spiders? I've had hitchhiker crabs wipe out almost a complete colony. Won't have hermits for the same reason. What is a SSG anway?

I'm assuming the alk reading is meq/l?

If the demon eyes still aren't happy I'd be inclined to do a least a 25% water change this weekend.
Just thought of something. You said they were open Sun-Tues. What day do you dose purpleup?

The SSG's are the ones Phil has for 199 a polyp. I got them from Chris last ummm fall. They just don't open and over time just shrink down in size till there is nothing there.

Yep on the alk reading.

I dose the purpleup on Saturday afternoon so I haven't dosed since they went in the tank.

SSG's are the world famous Special Edition Sergeant Slaughters Grandious, I am suprised you do not know this Amy. Shame on you. BTW, scientists have taken a sample of the SSG DNA to splice into other coral's DNA structures so they will be indestructible. When this is finished, everyone will be able to keep Acroporas. Red Bugs will be afraid to attack them because with the SSG DNA spliced into the Acroporas, they will be able to pile drive Red Bugs into complete submission and train them to scavage detritus for their Acropora masters.

BTW, SSG are paly's so this may be the reason they are surviving.

The polyps that are on the rock with the shroom I got Sunday... What are they because they are all out and open.

LOL

Anyway, look for those evil zoanthid eating cone snails as well, I remember having zoa trouble at the shop once and Amy found some on one of my colonies. Sure enough they were the culprits.
