Stunner Chalice Growing Underneath Itself

Hello Everyone,

I bought this stunner chalice about two months ago, and I was wandering if this growth is normal. I realized that the light was too intense as it was starting to turn tan in color, so I moved it down to the sand bed. However it is still growing underneath itself. Is this normal? If not, how can I fix this?

Thanks

Can you pull the stunner out of the tank?

It's just growing out off the rock. Sometimes they plate out and some times they drop off the edge like yours. You could put some rubble underneath the stunner to keep it from growing any further back. But once it starts to get into shadow territory underneath, it will turn back out toward the light. I'd just let it go. It's fine and in 6 months you may have a very interesting shape as well as a colorful coral.

This is one I had that started as a quarter size frag on a plug that I tucked into a hole in a large rock. ( 9 months or so after this photo I had to carve it up as it was nearly 2' in diameter.

Wow you have a very nice chalice! Thanks for the information. I was worried but I guess it will be fine.

I sold that one when my 180g tank broke and it was too big for my 125g tank. Besides, the old tank only had only 20 or 25 big colonies and a few frags, the new tank over 100 small colonies and frags and 14 or 15 anemones.

I happened to find a tiny chip with only 3 mouths in my other tank. I put it on a frag plug 8 months ago and now it has 20+ mouths. They are all small as the entire frag is still fairly small, but it's growing like crazy!

I think yours will look great in time.
