My crocea came in with a 4-5 inch shell, healthy, etc., opening very well in a reef tank. Since I've had it, about a month, it has grown a kind of scalloped shelving under the mantle. I can see that perhaps the shell itself is composed of these kind of scallops, but does that pristine white edge (about 1/3 inch straight outward) just break off as the clam grows, or does it get resorbed and laid down again? Or is this something it shouldn't be growing?
