Stupid sump/refugium question

This is going to sound real stupid but I am confused or maybe it's the time of the night thats doing it.

Let me know if I have this right or not.

Water comes out of your tank to your sump then it is either pumped or drained (depending on your setup) into your refugium then through your protein skimmer then pumped back into your tank to start all over again.
