Stylophora disease

I've been battling what i had suspected to be stn on my stylo since the day I purchased it. I've tried dips, changes in light and flow (slow changes over the course of weeks), more feeding and nothing I do seems to help.I've had the coral since Feb and so the regression is quite slow. I've also fragged, and superglued where the tissue has receded. What has be perplexed is where the flesh recedes, it creates a deformed skeletal structure.

Specs as follows: 75 gal with reefbreeders, temp 78, pH 8.2, alk steady at 9.5 and cal at 450. Amm, trate, and trite are 0. Phosphate is a bit high at 0.11.

Also relevant is that there shouldn't be any predator as all i have for stocking are two clowns and a kole tang. I also have a birds nest that was purchased around the same time that has doubled in size. My lps and zoas are all thriving as well.

Bump:

can anyone help me diagnose and treat what is causing the necrosis that surrounds a raised skeletal structure?

What kind of light? There was a study done a while back where Stylos hate Red light specifically Red led light. Red light is an indicator to the coral of light intensity and it controls it zooxanthellae based on the artificial indicator thus eventually starving the coral.

Why not raise your nitrates a little? I ran ULNS for a year and it wasn't until I got my nitrates up to where my tank came alive. Stylo's are hungry corals.

Zero Nitrates and too much white light(LED) will double whammy it. Perhaps lower the lights or coral in your tank and feed some Amino Acids and or Oysterfeast.

It's currently in the sand bed and the whites max out at 30% while the blue channel maxes out at 65%. I'll try feeding more, but how would that cause the raised hard edges around the necrosis? I appreciate the feedback.

I had the problem but nor do I know its exact cause:

the mika stylo rtn'ed half its body then now made a full comeback

My main colony looks to be improving, but I kept all the frags to see if they would improve, and while they haven't gotten worse, there has been no improvement. I'm still curious to the cause so as to keep it from happening.

With all of my other coral thriving, and currently showing great color, I'm a bit reluctant to mess with my lighting schedule. Especially since the stylo is currently on the sand bed and is slightly browning. Once/if it fully heals, I'd like to stick it in higher light to color up some more. I do have some selcon that I have been adding to the fish food once a week, but as of monday started to add directly to the tank twice/three times a week for some added nutrients.

I, too, have yet to know what went wrong. I sealed up the bleached part and put it on my frag rack for a while. I dipped like 3/4 times but got nothin ripped off :deadhorse1:

i can post some pictures
