Stylophora Frag Quarantine Question

Everyone,

This will be my first crack at quarantining an SPS coral. My permanent QT is a 30 gallons BB, with one piece of live rock, an Aquaclear 70 HOB filled with Fluval ceramic bio spheres, and a Reef Octopus HOB BH90 skimmer. Water movement is accomplished with a two Sicce Voyager 3 powerheads.

A few days ago I moved a fish from QT up to my 65g mixed reef DT, so the QT tank is used to being fed daily and can handle any bioload I throw at it. Right now I only have a few Trochus snails keeping the tank clean.

My lighting is a bit lagging and is of a concern. I have a Fluval LED strip, in addition to adding a Sunblaster T5 HO light strip to supplement. Here is a link to the lights....

I have a few questions that I need help with.

1. After I dip the Coral with Revive, can I get away with the lighting for quarantining purposes. My plan was to start at the bottom of the tank, and gradually move the frag upwards towards the surface. If not...what else would be a good for supplementation to get by with.

2. In terms of supplementation.....do you think that with using Reef Crystals Salt, can I get away with just doing water changes without supplementation. I do have a bucket of Red Coral Sea Pro Salt that I could use.....if you think that would be better.

3. Is the amount of flow with the 2 powerheads good enough for temporarily quarantining.

Basically, I am just trying to use what I have to quarantine the coral for a few weeks, to inspect for bugs, and slow acclimation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also... my DT already has a small Garf Bonsai colony, and has been doing well, so I have no problem keeping SPS. My DT parameters are all in line, and I use Kessil's 360we lights, with more than enough in tank flow and turnover rate.

I don't know of any pests that affect stylos which would warrant more than a fortnight in qt. I'd start it at least halfway up if your lighting is poor. I don't know the gph of those power heads but more certainly wouldn't hurt. I would use kalk in my topoff to maintain alk and Ca

The Sicce Voyagers put out 1300 gph. Right now I am the manual top off guy...everyday I go downstairs and add like 2 cups of water. In my DT....based on my evaporation rate and testing, I run my Kalk at almost full strength. Between water changes and Kalk in my ATO...my numbers are stable.

With my QT being half the volume, and no other factors that consume my Ca and Alk, (like my SPS colony and Corraline Algae), I am gonna have be a bit careful with the Kalk. I am sure at like 1/4 to 1/5 strength would be a good place to start

Good idea with the lighting...thanks for your input.
