I am interested in purchasing either a red or purple gonipora. In understand that they are easier than lobata and stokeski(sp?), but they are still gonipora and I want to know of any long term success stories.
HI,
I would say figure out what Goniopora is best for your tank.
The reds are usually G. bugosi, G. stutchburyi for small polyped ones and G. planulata and G. somaliensis for the larger polyped ones, they like med to high flow and moderate to strong lighting, T5s, MH, or LEDs. G. tenuidens usually needs bright light and light flow. Alternating current is always best for Goniopora. You will also need to feed them.
You will also need to make sure you have no phosphates, good calcium and alkalinity, and use and iron supplement.

I have read all of the articles at least once. It seems that these corals can be done with regular feedings and Iron. G. tenuidens, bugosi, and stuchburyi are the target species, particularly bugosi.
justincognito, do you own any of these corals? how long and how well do they grow?
In other words, if you have any of the for mentioned species please tell me your experience.
In my experience, the reds bleach very easily so acclimate them slow to higher lighting or keep them in a shaded area with moderate flow. Target feeding cyclopeeze is key to keeping them healthy.
