Sufficient light for my Crocea?

Hello all,

I am new here and I appreciate all the great info that everyone posts here.

I just purchased my second crocea clam. The first one I had was about 5" and was doing very well in my tank for several months. It was then that I bought a bi-color angel :(

The angel nipped and nipped at the clam which stressed it heavily. It also started to loose some of it's color. I found out later (as the clam's health deteriorated) that my thermometer was broken and my salinity readings were off also. My tank had gotten up to a SG of about 1.032 and my temp up to about 90 deg F. Frankly, I don't know anything survived but I was having a lot of problems. Well I finally got all my params back into check and got rid of the angel but the clam eventually died. (big surprise? :( )

Now I just bought a new one that is small, about 2.5" and I have had him at the bottom of my tank since Friday trying to acclimate him.

I have a 29g tank that is 18" deep and I am running a 150W MH with a 15K XM bulb. The tank this clam came out of at the LFS was running I believe a 400W MH 20K bulb about 12" above a tank that was 10-12" deep.

Should I have enough light if I place the clam near the top of the tank? I assume it should be as my previous one did fine until all of these other issues. Sorry for being so long winded.

You should be good to go! I also have a maxima in my 29 gallon tank and I have a 150 watt Phoenix 14k bulb. I've had mine for over a year and a half.

when i had my 20H mine were always on the bottom and their mantels never stretched upwards, only outwards. if you find by the end of the week he is still stretching his mantel vertically move him up a few inches every week until he stop stretching.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. He seems to be just stretching them outward and now upward as the edges of the mantle are almost "hanging down."
