Sufficient lighting for TBS rock

Hi all,

I'm a newb, just getting ready to set up my first saltwater tank, and I'm hooked on "the package" from TBS. First a question.

I've got a 65 gallon tank coming in another week (or so they tell me) with a 36" Custom SeaLife brand Power Compact Retro-Fit lighting system, with TWO 96 watt bulbs, one of which is actinic. Sorry if I'm not explaining this correctly.

Will that give me enough light to keep the life on the rocks? I'm afraid I don't have enough, but wonder if its necessary to pour more money into more watts.

I'm grateful for any comments,

In the same boat and there are people who know a lot more than I do but from reading A LOT, it is ok for the TBS rock, sand and other creatures that come with it. If you want so much life that you can no longer see any rock under it all, then you'll need more. Go to the main page and read about the lighting in all of the "Tanks of the Month". They have all kinds of corals etc. with a whopping amount of light.

Sounds like you have sufficient light (200W over 36x18 area).

Depends on what you want to put on top of the rocks too, but just for keeping the rocks, you're fine.

Hello!
Our rock requires very little light, the average viability on our site is about five feet, very turbid here in the Gulf, thus the rock is happy with little light.

Thanks

I'm embarrassed to say how much time I have spent screwing off (uh I mean doing research). I'm absolutely hooked on this stuff and I only have water in my tank yet.

I know exactly what you mean.

Actually my office Mgr. does those checks and she tight with my Mom. Can't have anyone telling on me.
