Suggest A Stocking List For Me

I have a 90 gallon tank with a 55 gallon sump, lots of live rock, soft corals and LPS corals. The only fish I currently have is a Royal Gramma. The only clean-up crew members are two hermits and 5-7 turbo snails (will add more clean-up members later). The system is very mature (6 years or so up and running).

It is so hard to come up with a list of fish to add that all get along and won't pick on corals, not to mention provide enough space. I am open to just about anything except angels as it seems just about any variety are hit or miss with the corals.

Ideas???

There are lots of choices for a tank your size that will get along with one another...

- Kole or Tomini Tang
- Midas Blenny
- Starry Blenny (but not if you decide to get a tang)
- Flasher and Fairy Wrasses
- Watchman gobies
- Marine Betta
- Hamlets
- Clownfish
- Hawkfish

What do you like?

This might help you out. Find a fish that you just got to have no matter what that is compatible to your tank. Then come back with that and we can really breakdown a few options.

I like the flame Hawkfish, but from what I have read it picks on smaller shrimp and snails...I don't think I will get anything other than nassarius snails (plus the turbos I have now), but I would like a shrimp at some point (probably coral banded or peppermint).

Wrasses are fine.

Gobies/blennies....I can get only one from this group lest they fight, correct (I like the dartfish, he would be in this family, right)?

Finally i thought something like a firefish goby would get picked on by the tang or clown?

I have looked at all fish in those lists but thought the issues I mention above applied.

I honestly don't have a fish I have to have. I like the tangs because of their variety, the Tomini is fine.

At the end of the day, I just want various colors and don't want all bottom dwellers (or top dwellers), in other words, a mix of swimming locations.

I also don't mind spending $50 or more for one...maybe two, but trying to keep the rest in the less than $30 range, if possible (going by online sites' prices).

Then there is the issue of when to get them all. All at once would be best, but if I am going to QT, I think i have a 29gal to use, but might be too small to QT all at once. If I am going to get them one or two at a time, then I pretty much have to buy local (due to shipping costs) and spend more than I have to....or wait for the fish I want to become available.

This is why I have waited so long to re-stock, so many things to consider!!

I have had mines for about 9 months now and never had any issues with them going after inverts. I feed my tank twice a day. I think the key is to have the inverts in before the Hawkfish. For as the Gobies/Blennies, you could do something like the Golden Midas Blenny and some type of Goby.. This specific Blenny likes to hang out in the middle to the upper 3rd of the tank, so they won't cross paths that often. I wouldn't do like a Lawnmower Blenny with a Yellow Watchman Goby. I have read and heard of Kole and Tomini Tangs not getting along with Lawnmower and Starry Blennies. I don't know why this is the case. Dartfish can go with blennies or gobies.

How about this working list:

Royal Gramma (already have)
Canary Blenny
Tomini Tang
Yellow Watchman Goby
Jawfish
Clownfish (probably TR Ocellaris)
6 Line Wrasse
Firefish Goby
Kupang Damsel (I read another post that said these guys aren't all that agressive?)

You have a screen top or a canopy? Jawfish are jumpers. And the wrasse can be a jerk from other people's experience. Mine is actually very nice. No issues with him at all. But this appears to be rare. So keep that in mind. The jawfish and the yellow watchman might have issues. What kind of jawfish? Otherwise it sounds like a good list!

I am working off of Petsolutions' website, the "pearly jawfish" appears to be the only one they have.

I wondered about Jawfish and Watchman...will probably have to make a decision there.

I have lost fish before due to jumping, so I am going to have netting in place when I start stocking again.

I'm getting a jawfish in a few weeks, pearly. I would
Look into the burrow requirements for them, they need a deeper sand bed with various sand sizes as well as rubble. If the tank is planned correctly to accomodare both species, then you
Probably won't have issues. But they each will need a specific spot on opposite sides or pretty far away from eachother which should be doable with a 90( what I have)

I have a 90 gallon as well (smaller sump though :p )
If it helps, my current (fish) stock is:
1x One-Spot Foxface (if you get one, make sure it's a one-spot and not a Foxface Lo, the Lo gets several inches bigger and needs a larger sized tank! Otherwise they're more-or-less the same fish minus the spot :p )
1x Diamond Goby
1x Neon Cleaner Goby
2x Ocellaris Clowns
1x Royal Flasher Wrasse
1x Rose Band Fairy Wrasse

I'm currently debating on 2-3 more fish, likely another wrasse, a Royal Gramma and possibly a Midas Blenny.

I have a 105gal (48x24x21) and I'm pretty much finished stocking (although I may add one more fairy wrasse). My stocklist, in order of stocking is:

Fire Dartfish (aka Firefish)
Tailspot Blenny
2x Ocellaris Clownfish (breeding pair)
2x Royal Gramma (just added the second one in December 2015)
Blue Flasher Wrasse
McCosker's Flasher Wrasse
Blue Reef Chromis
One-Spot Foxface
Kole Tang
Exquisite Fairy Wrasse

I have a 72 gal bow front with 20 gal sump. No refugium, just BM Curve 7 skimmer. The tank has been running for 3+ years. Lots of live rock covered in coralline.

In 2015 the tank crashed when I improperly treated for red slime. I lost everything. I let it sit for several months, then in Dec started again. Over a couple months I added 2 clowns, flame angel, potters angel, carpenter wrasse, christmas wrasse, blue jaw trigger and powder blue tang. my PBT got ich and I've been treating it, but he finally succumbed yesterday. I also had a stray voltage problem which I believe is the reason for me also losing my 2 clowns, carpenter wrasse and flame angel. Needless to say I'm really frustrated in dropping so much $$ on a hobby I love but can't seem to make work.

I also began adding some coral frags: zoa, kryptonite candy cane, ricordea, acan, toadstool, acropora. I regularly feed them and do 20% water change each week.

I fixed my stray voltage. My potters, blue jaw and christmas seem to be doing fine. I'll finish the ich treatment before adding anything, but wonder what you all think I should get or do? I love the color of the PBT, but I learned yesterday that they require more swimming space. True? Did I stress him out? What about another angel or two? Swallowtail? I used to have a foxface & loved him.

I'm frustrated. What more can I do to keep my investment and love of the hobby alive? Help!

I would suggest starting a new thread so the OP can get the answers he needs in this thread.

This is what I currently have on fish in my 100 gallon tank:
- a pair of Pygoplites diacanthus (Indian Ocean Yellow Belly Regal Angels 80 mm & 95 mm TL)
- a pair of Amphiprion percula (Solomon Islands Percula)
- a pair of Synchiropus splendidus (Green Mandarin Dragonet)
- a harem group of 4 Pseudochromis fridmani (Orchid Dottyback)
- a male Chrysiptera starcki (Starck's Damselfish) - still looking for a few females to make a pair or harem group
- a (supposedly) female Ecsenius bicolor (Bicolor Blenny) - male is in QT

I may still add some of these:
- a pair of Doryrhamphus excisus (Blue Stripe Pipefish)
- a pair of wrasses
- a pair of jawfish
- a pair of shrimp gobies

A dwarf angel would work in there: coral beauty or flame. These guys are reef safe "with caution".

A Kole Tang or a Yellow Tang would work and maybe both.

A blenny would do well in that tank.

There are any number of gobies that would do well.

A few chromis would probably work. The blue green chromis do tend to pick on one another.

You might get by with about 4 of the smaller anthias species. They like multiple feedings per day and that might not be feasible for you.

Most any of the fairy wrasses (Cirrhilabrus family) are great fish and are generally very hardy and peaceful. (Lineatus, rhomboid, and flame are especially cool for coloration.) The Purple and Helfrichi firefish are also great peaceful fish for smaller tanks.

Why do you say "no: to the yellow tang? I had one before my tank crashed and he seemed to do ok. (Had him with a blue hippo who also did well)
