I just finished setting up my new aquarium, which is 112 gallons (60Lx18Wx24H) and was wondering if its suitable enough for a Naso Tang?

The only fish I have on my wish list are a pair of clowns, Purple Tang and hopefully a Naso Tang. Would the Purple Tang pick on a Chevron Tang? How many fish would you recommend having in this size aquarium?

I just love tangs but hope they won't fight one another in this size tank.

Thanks!

well i would only add one personally just because there is a chance they will not get along.. i really like the purple tangs, i think its a very nice color for that shape of fish. its prolly doable to keep more than one in your size tank, as long as you can handle the bioload always a chance they will fight tho. i dont have any experience with those fish, but i do know some tangs, like the powder blue i believe, can be pretty aggressive.

ok, i just looked up a chart that has listed tangs and their aggressiveness and both the purple and the naso seem to be some of the more chill tangs around, so thats positive. ill add a link..

The purple would be find in your tank, unfortunately the Naso will not be, he will outgrow your tank very quick. If you want two tangs, the purple is beautiful and I would suggest you do go with that one, the chevron is beautiful when young but IMO gets a little ugly when older. Another small tang that would work would be a kole tang, tomini tang, and a mimic tang. I would go with one of those us the purple

I would not add too many large fish, two tangs, maybe a dwarf angel or butterfly, and maybe 5-10 small fish(depending on what size of fish you chose)

He's a little under the minimum for a Purple Tang (125 LiveAquaria), so I'm not sure how well another Tang would do in that kind of nervous environment. The Chevron is a minimum 180 gallon fish(LiveAquaria) but 100 gallon here. I wouldn't risk two such expensive and aggressive fish together. With the aggressive nature of the Purple, do you really want to give him a punching bag?

You can get a naso as a small juvi (as small as 3 inches) and they will be fine but eventually you will have to find the naso and the purple tang a bigger home. Most people are aware of this and plan an upgrade in the near futute.

I would say stock for the tank you have and not a tank you might have in the future. There is a great article on tangs that some people disagree with on here but i seem to agree with alot of the points! but to small for a Naso but you can do the purple tang with no problems!
