Hello. I need some experts opinions on how to aquascape my tank. My tank is a weird size and hard to scape it. I threw a bunch of rock in it and just stacked it up and I thought it looked silly. Maybe because I have no coral attached to it is why it didn't look right. I have more rock on the way and would like to get some ideas from you experts out there as moving this rock around in my tank is horrible. I pretty much have to stand on a ladder and insert half my upper body in the tank just to reach the bottom. This thing is 4 feet deep.

Oh and if anyone has any extra frags sitting around to donate to my lonely tank, I wouldn't reject the offer as getting this thing up and running has pretty much tapped my spending budget fro the next few Months. Yes I am a newbie at this with no experience so please excuse my ignorance. I have learned a lot about this addicting hobby/full time job. This addiction started out as I was only looking for a 20 gallan tank for my son's betta fish and came across this tank and couldn't pass it up.

One last thing. I would like to become a member of the reef club. Can I just download the application and email it to someone with a paypal payment or give it to someone at the meeting as I plan on attending this Month.

Thanks

wow, that is a real unique tank! I like the rock to the right....so far looks nice. since its so deep I think a really tall island on the left would be awesome!

That's an awesome looking tank!!! I think it would look kewl if you build a bridge to connect the two from both sides. It's hard for me to visualize without seeing the tank infront of me. A mixture of different shapes and types of rocks like tonga branch and some plate shelf rocks on both sides would look kinda kewl!!! :)

That is a great looking tank!, and I can fix you up with some leathers to get you started, seems I am getting overrun with those. Also just print out the application form for the MTRC and bring it to the club meeting this month at the Aquarium Restaurant and I can get you fixed up. or since I live in the boro, we could get together here and do all that before the meeting. If you would like, I would be happy to visit your place and see your tank and offer some humble suggestions, and let you see a couple of more tanks here in town. If you want to do that just PM me and we can fix that up.

I think a swim threw in the middle and and rocks in the back on the wall would look cool. Look at this idea, I'm thinking about doing this myself.

I love the rock wall in the link you posted. The problem is I am limited on the size of items I can fit in my tank opening. The top of my tank is covered with small cutouts in the top. The openings are very small. One nice sized live rock is about all I can fit.

then make it in smaller pieces and assemble it in the tank. Its more of a pain, but the end result would be awesome..

wow, that has to be the most unique tank I have ever seen. AWESOME. my best advice would be to create a tower in each section. make sure you have plenty of shelfs to attach frags. the more caves you can do the better for the fishes.

I do have a question but not regarding rock. What kind of lights are you plan on running on this tank with it being 4' deep ?

OK. I overguestimated. My tank is 35 inches tall. I added the extra 12 inches because of the canopy.
The lights are my next upgrade. I currently have compact flouresence. About 600 watts half daylight/half actinic.
Here is a pic of my lights. Any recomendations on an upgrade?

Ok. so it is the same depth front to back on all 3 sections. best suggestion is Cloud9's. make the wall, or have two large sections if you dont do the wall and a nice swimming area in the middle

Man I love that tank! The possibilities for aquascaping are ENDLESS! I know what you mean though about how hard it can be. My only suggestion is that you just fool around with it. I like to look at other tanks on the internet, and and get ideas for what I like, and even more important, what I do not like. Secondly, you HAVE to acquire metal haldides for that tank.

You know, with the shape of that tank, I would suggest you can also do some cool stuff with foam briding the sections, or make aome home made plaster rock and shape it to whatever you want, like a long bridge across or something of that nature.

Hay you are in the boro if you have some time you can come over and look at what I have you may find something you want. I will PM you my phone number.

Do you work in the 'boro?

The reason I ask is because I'm going to a class in Nov and might be able to give you some frags. (Only because that tank is so freakin' awesome....)

I do work in the boro. Actually I work from home. I started a small I.T. consulting business supporting small to medium businesses.

Some frags would be awesome. I will PM you my number.

I want to thank everyone on this board and MTRC. You guys have been very kind and generous offering your suggestions and frags. I am glad I came across the club.

I could always use some help/suggestions. You are more than welcome to come over and check out my setup. I live in the North part of the Boro close to sports com.

My tank has been setup since February. Trying to add things as fast as my wife will let me buy them. I have another 60 lbs of rock coming today. Hopefully that will be all the rock I need.
