Suggestions for Detritivores to clean sump?

My sump has some spots where detritus will routinely collect. I have historically siphoned this out every few months, but would prefer to add something that will do it for me. I'm also trying to build my pod population and when I siphon out the sump I typically get lots of pods too and then have to try to pick them out of the muck. The sump is bare bottom with some live rock, skimmer, etc. Would a Bristle or Serpent star be best? other suggestions?

If you're talking about that fluffy looking mulm that collects in low spots, I don't think serpents or bristles will help too much. They're really carnivores and will eat little bits of stray food. Amphipods and other little pods are a better bet for the kind of drifting detritus, I think.

Your best bet is to just siphon it out IMO. If it eats it poops, so your not really gaining anything by going this route. Just as an example, you could set up a fully functional BB tank and add a bunch of detritus to it. After awhile it will find a dead spot and accumulate. Anyways, the bristle worms, copepods, amphipods, isopods, micro brittle stars, mysid shrimp etc are not going to make this stuff disappear for you. They may sift through it looking for something to eat, but overall they're just going to add to it.
