suggestions for sump

I just wanted to get some thoughts from you guys on a sump.

My 125 is running now with a amiracle sump i got from levichar. It is a little too small for my liking. I think it is 20 gal.

would a 40 long fit under the stand from the front. ( i don't want to have to drain the tank and move it again) or any other suggestions.

i have an internal return pump and a big ol octopus skimmer under there.

does anyone have a cheap 40 long they would part with if it would fit throiugh the front.

If you could fit it then yes. I have a 15 gallon under my 75 gallon reef and the only thing it houses is a compartment for the phosphate reactor and my skimmer then the return pump. As long as you have room for the over flow when the power is off you really don't need to worry about it.

i just have to go bigger. i had a 45 gal sump under my 90 cube and loved the room. i have like 30lbs of lr under there now and there is just no room to work

Easiest way to find out is cut a piece of cardboard to the footprint size of a forty long. The open your doors keep it flat and see if it will fit. You shouldn't have a problem but always nice to try with a template first then build rather than putting baffles in a tank to find out it won't fit.

Also petco might be running the buck a gallon sale again soon or if you ask maybe they would discount it for you?

if you can fit it i would go with a 40 gallon breeder i love those tanks for sumps. i also have a 125 and i use a 40 gallon breeder and it works great for me.
i have a 30 gallon breeder from my old 110 set up i can sell you if interested same footprint just 4 inches shorter.
36x18x12
LxWxH

How about adding another 20 gallon- if you could figure the flow between them ( drill the one and have it flow into the other) - have one for man made filters= skimmer, etc. and the other with live filters= cheato/sand,etc. - so only baffle the second one for the return pump. Thinking about doing this type of deal with my 180- if I ever get it up.

rolland,

how much did you want for the 30 gal sump. and does it have any baffles. and is it drilled for an external pump.

I tried to pm you but your box is full

when i had my 240 i had it setup that way with 2 rubbermaid tubs hooked together. thanks for the idea

I would think it would be easier to work with 2 separate areas regarding maintainance issues. As well as not dealing with live stuff getting in the skimmer pumps ( cheato, snails, etc.) - let me know if you decide to do this- I would be interested to see it in action.
