I am setting up a new tank and need some suggestions on a silent return pump, like the title suggests. Thanks for the help.

Not Little Giant Pump Co 4-MDQX-SC. I just purchased this pump and I am going to have to return it. It sounds like an outboard boat engine. Im going to Tag along to see what others sugest.

Thanks for the input. My new tank is a 75gal reef ready with a 30 gal sump. I will have two 150watt 10k metal halide and one actnic 48in vho and one 50/50 48in vho. I currently have a bunch of mag pumps but they all tend to be on the loud side. What size internal pump would someone recommend for this application. I have gotten suggestions to use both the drain and return lines in the overflow as drain lines and run returns over the back. Thanks for the help.

I have a Quiet One 3000 pump that I'm using for a closed-loop on my 40g. It's so incredibly quiet that I have to put my ear within a foot of it just to hear it running.

I had a mag 24 and it was way loud! I had to toss it and i got a ocean runner and they are way quiet, its like i cant even hear it at all! They are pretty cheap too and have a low wattage, they are really cheap on dr fosters. You should check them out.

I will give the quiet one and ocean runner a look. Do any of you recommend a gph or if I should use both lines as drain and run returns over the back.

My Quiet One 3000 is extremely quiet also.

Give me a day or two and I'll let you know about the Ocean Runner 2500.I just got it in for a 45 gal. I broke a part on it trying to attach a ball valve. The part should be in tommorrow and will get back on how the flow matches the tank and how quet it is. I bought due to many recomondations here and the low watt to power ratio. I can tell you it's a bit bigger than I expected but solid built, other than the part I broke I guess.

Just a quick thought that no one seemed to touch upon, have you considered or tried isolating the pump mounting with a piece of foam or rubber. My hot tub motors were mounted directly on a piece of 3/4 " plywood and resonated like a piano sound board. After installing a simple piece of 1/4" rubber the hum was reduced sugnificantly.

Thanks for the advice I think i am going to look at a Ocean Runner. I finally got my canopy in after two months, but my 30gal sump arrived broken.

I use an OR 2500 on my 90 gallon and would recommend that one for your 75.
