how many gph can your overflow handle?

I like quietone 4000's for returns, they are silent and only 50w (submersible also).

The rest of the flow can be provided by some tunzee's or a closed loop

i went with a mag 12 for my return in my 90g. I wish i could step it up but i dont want excessive drain noise.

I need to get a good Powerhead for my tank.

Go with a eheim 1262 or even 1260. You don't want that much turnover in your sump. But for SPS, get some good powerheads. I'd go with the 1260 on yours.

thanks for the tips guys, i'll have to look into each one of those to see what will work best for me. thanks again

Eheim, quite ones, Ocean runner, all dead silent pumps with low wattage.

Mag overheat the water IME.

I would recommend the Eheim 1260, 1262 or the Tunze Master Recirculation Pump 1073.030. They can be run internal or externally. Dead silent and some of the most reliable pumps on the market. Rio Hyperflows (not the regular Rio's) and Quietones will also make good choices. The Mag is reliable but they are not as quiet as the others. I run a Mag 36 on my skimmer and I think all the concern about temp increase is pretty crazy. They do add heat to the tank but not that much. I think I saw about .3 degree increase in tank temps after adding the Mag.

If you can, I would recommend an external pump because they have less heat transfer. However, they can be nosier and use more power, but most last years with little maintenance.
