Suggestions on Flow

As Most of you know I am setting up a 125 tank and just tossing around some ideas for flow and figured who better then to ask then The wonderful people of the MTRC. I would love to do some MP40s but not in the budget at the momment maybe later down the road. My idea Buy a few Maxijet1200s and doing the flow mod on them and putting them on some kinda wave maker but what do you guys think would be good?:reading:

For the price & it may drop some more now that the new models have come out, The Hydor,s are hard to beat for the price. You could go with 4-K4s or a K-7 with 2 K-4s.

Nah, The New Sicce Voyager pumps (4 Models) are a much better choice IMO. They are controllable, Silent, Cheap compared to the Hydors. I already have one running since Jan and will add two larger models as funds allow.

If you go with the larger #4 models I would start with 2-3 of those or maybe four for good wave making possibilities. Depends on your budget, You can always add more but taking them back can have Issues. JMO

I'm running mine on my RKL and turning on/off every 5 sec since I got It In January. Not on problem at all and Chris a the Critter sells them at a decent price, Plus he will stand behind all he sells no questions asked.
And yes three would be a good start, And you can play around with the settings/timeing for the best flow In the tank! Have fun the build Is 1/2 the fun

I have always liked a lot of water flow. My sand is always moving. I have a mag 24 running through a closed loop with two outlets with eductors on both. I have a 1" SCWD on it and I have one outlet on each side of the tank blowing across to the other side. It switches slow enough that I get a good circulation going one direction before it changes to the other side. While it is transitioning from one side to the other I get flow from both outputs hitting each other and causing basically a very turbulent wave that goes from one side of the tank to the other. I have found that even LPS that people say don't like a lot of flow do very well. They may close up for a few days but when they come back out they do great.

PS they are way cheaper than any other controable pump around, Less than 1/4 of a small Tunze.

do not get the k4s i bought two of them and they work on the wavemaker function of the rkl but they are very noisey i am going to pick up some of the sicce voyagers

I have mine going over the back. It is in the basement so it really doesn't matter if it doesn't look perfect. If I had it to do over I would definitely drill it though. It isn't hard, I cut a chunk out of the side of my tank to do an overflow. The thicker the glass the easier it is actually.

I have an RKL L3, how hard is it to program them to be controlled with it?

If easy enough, I may have a nearly new Hydor Wavermaker with 2 controllable K3s on the market soon...

Hey, If I can do It anyone can program them LOL. I'm the Worst with computers so take my word for It. Ask any of the current RKE/RKL owners like Andy,Brandon and others and they will verift the simplicity.

PS Nothing against Closed Loops, But you would have to lay your tank On It's side to drill It and there Is always the risk of breaking the glass.
Plus I tried It once and I prefer Powerheads, Period...

you can paint the PVC with Krylon fusion if the wife will not allow the white to be seen....it is reef safe my plumbing is painted with it...no problems.

This is True Im just trying to figure out if it would be good to use since the back will be exposed and I have 2 young kids that like to mess with things Most def would be cheaper..

Not really, When you add the cost to drill, Plus the Pumps are on the high end (Pressure rated) and the Valves Unions and all the rest???
JMHO as I have been there and done that!
