Suggestions on knowing I am ready for fish/ or inverts

LFS basically said don't be overly worried about algae to support Cuc bc more than likely will be adding fish in a week and they will eat leftovers

Protein skimmer - the higher I run the cup the dryer it is? Had some light tea color last night first time running. Running just to know i can work it

 Now the fun part, for me anyway. Stocking and watching stuff grow

yep - I want juvenile clowns and just watch them grow. Everyone is asking what else I am going to put in there like it some kind of rush to add other fish. I have been wanting clowns for 20 years now. F those other fish.

CUC I think they will give me like 2 hermits and 5 snails - if water stays good all week is this weekend too soon for fish?

I personally do not think it would be to soon. Two small clowns then wait a few weeks while monitoring your tank conditions. I would be remiss if I did not suggest QT for the fishes but it is your choice.

The 36 gallon DT almost caused a divorce. I agree with the suggestion, but not the potential alimony.

part of the reason once I get my clowns in and healthy I have no burning desire to add other fish. The tanks are for me to have clowns end of story.

If I get ICH I guess I need to emergency qt to treat. Also I need to understand I will have 2 months of fallow if it happens?

Oh I get the alimony side of it. Fortunately when we moved from Connecticut to Wisconsin I was the one here looking for a house. It is amazing that we ended up with a house that has a fish room.:lolspin:

lol I need to follow your footsteps goodbye small house in NJ

I told here 10 gallon goldfish tank for the fair goldfish that wont die going on 7 years (I know 10g tank for a goldfish) was going to be nano salt when the fish died, and she was saying no she wanted counter space back. I can't go backwards lol I need to hold those 46 gallons I have.

Wow go to LFS all ready to buy CUC and kid told me to wait

So okay maybe I don't start with CUC BC I don't have alage, but unsure what waiting weeks will do lol

Saw some misbar juvenile clowns. Thinking of getting a pair this Friday if levels are still good and no algae

0,0,20 Ammonia NO2, NO3

I would do a little ghost feeding, grind up a few flakes a day and drop them in, every day. You should wait until your ammonia and nitrite are undetectable for a few days in a row before you add anything.

Would goldfish food work?

I have no reason to doubt liverock, and I have been zero for a little while now. (3-4 days) Ghost feeding would make sense in terms of something happening. I know patiences is key, but not clear why I am waiting right now. Aka what specifically am I trying to mature, and how is it being accomplished. I haven't been convinced on the ghost feed or pure ammonia as I don't see the point. I would get more comfort with live rock, but what have done is suppose to be right way so what risk my rock isn't ready? 5%?

I guess I wish they talked to me in terms of risk. You bought 38 pounds of live rock, and cycled it a week and see 0 ammonia and nitrites for 3 days. You are 20% likely to quick kill fish.

I feel like I should quit asking LFS. Very knowledgeable and a very good store, but everyone has their own way.

Lol when I was buying $500 of liverock we werent talking wait a month track lol. At least going forward I will cycle my own tanks and seed off this one I guess.

IMO it is irrelevant if you have algae or not, unless you buy something that just eats algae. You can always toss in a bit of flake food to feed them. Most CUC are scavengers and will eat whatever they find. I don't really see what waiting longer will gain. You cycled your tank everything went up then down. Just my 2 cents

I was hoping you would say that. So frustrated but it puts you in an awkward spot. "So you are saying wait? Yeah that makes a lot of sense...but go ahead and wrap me up two Nemos somebody is going to kill them eventually might as well be me kid".

Is there much difference between getting CUC and waiting a few days for fish or getting fish and waiting a few days or week for CUC?

To me the only real difference is the fish will certainly add more of a bio-load on your tank than the CUC. The fish will poo more than a few snails.

From what we have talked about I would think your cycled and ready to start adding things slowly.

Day 2 and no fish sale. I brought in water for test and they are getting .25 nitrite. That's a good reason to wait. I have been getting 0 so will need to read red sea test instructions again.

I am still reading 0 on Nitrite and 20 on Nitrates. lFS sold me some bs biological starter so adding that as well.

I will let LFS check again Friday in hopes of buying something.

Seeing a little greenish hue in water only noticeable if I look at tank long ways.

personally I think your good to go. I would tell the LFS thanks for the advice but now bag up what I want. I don't know what the biological starter is but you already have that going on in the tank.

The biological starter I kind of saw as unnecessary, but hey maybe they got a lot margin maybe just maybe I got a little uptick from the bacteria within.

I printed of instructions (red sea testkit) and followed them very closely this time got zero on nitrites. I am not seeing much algae, although if I look at tank long ways there is a little free floating.

Do some of the very hardy soft corals use nitrates at all? zoas, hairy mushrooms, etc? I know you want to keep nitrates down with coral, but still struggling to figure out what nutrients from water they use to grow.

The LFS owner is seems extremely knowledgeable said he didn't think it would be crazy if I did a coral first once I cycled (the really hardy stuff).
