I have tons of those in my sump. I think they may be a sponge of some sort.

I take it they are not harmful? I don't have good lighting yet just a regular bulb that can't support coral at all so how does it grow?

Just a sponge... not harmful. I have some in my tank as well.

no harm. i prefer these in my sump and skimmer pump over dusters....gives it that 'alien-deep-sea-thermovent' feel. LOL

Hey thanks everyone. Makes my fiance and I feel better. Especially her because I'm the one who started the tank and she is taking care of it for me while I'm away.
