Suggestions Wanted!!!

I'm looking at moving my 29 into a 75gal. I am not planning on drilling it but I do want to incorporate a sump/fuge system into the setup.

The suggestions I'm looking at getting are for the equipment.

I want to know what would be the best HOB overflow to get and what all is needed with it (IE return pump and the such)

I would also like to know about skimmers...right now I have an Aqua C Remora with the mag 3, but Something tells me that won't be enough. It's rated up to 75 gals if my memory serves me correct.

What are the best bang for buck Powerheads.

I'm probably going to go with a T-5 setup for the lighting so I think I have that under control.

Any other ideas and or suggestions are totally welcome!

Thank all
Josh

For hang on skimmer I think the "best" would be the one Deltec makes. You can ask Terryricke more about that as he just bought one recently. If you do run a Remora make sure you have a light bioload in the tank and I'd upgrade the pump from a rio to the quieter and more powerful maxijet 1200.

I'd say one of the better powerheads are Seios. Good flow for a decent price.
Of course if you want to do a little DIY you could mod a few maxijet 1200s then those would definitely be the way to go.
If money is no object get a tunze or vortech.

The skimmer has the mag 3 which is very noisey but i think it's better then the MJ on there.

I was looking at the MJ mods, but I don't have the time nor the tools right now to do that kinda project

acidlittle,
Do you have a budget for the remaining products you're undecided on? I've been doing some research on these very items lately and could make some suggestions if I knew how much you had to spend.

Here are some of the things I've found so far in my research about overflows, pumps and skimmers.

Eshopps Overflow $60

another popular overflow
Amiracle Overflow $60

Overflow Silencer
$18 or you can build one to quite down the overflows.

Skimmer-definitely upgrade... Run along side the Romera if you want.
ASM G3 Skimmer since price is a factor - you'll have to make sure it will fit in your space.

Recommend Deltec Skimmer, since you'll have a sump you could just get the MC500.

I wish I could help you more with a pump but I don't know alot about them other than what is popular. Depending on how you setup your sump/refugium you'll want to use a pump that will equal 1-1.5x tank turnover hr. so your refugium and skimmer can process the water in the sump. Maybe a Mag , possible an energy efficient pump like this Eheim.

Once again this is only what I've collected for information during my research. Can anyone point out something they would change?

We have the G3 on the UNI tank and that thing is sweet! However it is very large in size ( and I am thinking you may not have to go that large for a 75 gallon? That thing takes care of our 245 gal with a 50 gal sump no problems at all. Just a Thought!

Finally found the overflow info i was looking for. Lifereef is evidently one of the best overflows. Don't know if it is worth paying 2x more than the others but it does look nice.

http://www.lifereef.com/siphon.html

I agree that the G3 is overkill but it only costs slightly more than a G2 and comes with a bigger pump. If it fits under his tank then he has what he needs for the next tank upgrade. Plus it will be easier to sell when he is ready to upgrade the skimmer.

Yah I was going to suggest lifereef myself. But I can't justify spending the 200 bucks for something I can make that will do the job for 20 bucks of pvc. See if you can find the thread we talked about a few pages back. I started it I believe but there are tons of things you can do with PVC. It just doesn't look as nice as the HOB overflows.

If I had the money to burn I'd go with the lifereef overflow if you don't want to drill it and don't want to take the time to assemble something that could possibly leak and spray water on your floors :)

Heck I may end up spending the money anyways cause I'm lazy :P
