Suicidal Fish Prevention?

Just a question about tank covers.
I had a goby fly the coup this weekend. He jumped out of my 60gal tall tank and onto the floor sometime in the night and we unfortunately didn't notice until the next morning when it was too late. :(

Any advice on material to use for preventing this sort of mishap in the future?

I've read about egg crate louvers and clear plastic shielding, what do you all use and find most effective for maintaining access for feeding, and other regular tasks in your tank?

TIA

Eggcrate would help but gobies are small and he could probably fit through the hole. The only other option I can think of is to cover it with acrylic or a glass cover.

The downside with covers is you have to keep them clean of salt spray. I wouldn't buy a cover as I think it would be more of a hassle than I would want.

you don't want to cut down air flow or light ...

depending on your hood.... you could use tulle and make a cover for the back, and staple or nail it on....

you could also use small plastic mesh tehy sell in craft stores for sewing on..... I was thinking of making a small bumper guard of that stuff up a few inches in order to stop the initial leap.... or off the back if the front is covered with a canopy.
