sulfur media/reactor

I have a sulfur reactor that looks like its pretty nasty inside. I read that I can clean the media and reuse it and also that it lasts a long time. any advice on how to clean it? or should I just replace it?

If the media was use more than one year it's better to get new one. if less you can wash it with distil water and run the reactor again . this way it will take few days till the media will start to react... with new one it will take little bit more time... .

if you need to buy media try to get the H&S media or the Schuran media the grain are big and better than the small one also it will not melt quick and not clog the flow

Wouldn't it be better to pull a few gallons of water from the tank and use that to rinse the sulfur media? I would think distilled would kill all the bacteria, whereas if you use saltwater, you'd keep at least some of the denitrifying bacteria as seed for the reactor, lessening the new cycle.

All you are really doing is rinsing off the dead bacteria that have accumulated inside the reactor and rinsing or replacing the calcarous media, right?

i don't know if this media was clean or not what system it was run to , if the water that was feed was filterd, if it was mine i was change complete to new one..... anyway when i clean mine and make change on the melt one i wash it with Ro water and put new media on top it's take about 3 days till it's start to break in.when it's complete new medai it's take about week or 2 till it's start to work well.
