Wouldn't it be better to pull a few gallons of water from the tank and use that to rinse the sulfur media? I would think distilled would kill all the bacteria, whereas if you use saltwater, you'd keep at least some of the denitrifying bacteria as seed for the reactor, lessening the new cycle.
All you are really doing is rinsing off the dead bacteria that have accumulated inside the reactor and rinsing or replacing the calcarous media, right?
