Summer Preparation

One thing however is with the high temps in the tank, can cause huge fluctuations in salinity and PH in your tank. So naturally, with the high temps in the tank, the higher the evaporation rate=huge water parameter swings.

This is where I have read in many forums and books that stable temps are very key to a reef tank, they are closed environments. Of course, what works for me doesn't work for everyone and I freak out if my tank temp ever gets above 78. I am purchasing a chiller myself for a tank I bought from Dennis and because it is bigger, it will be harder to maintain a stable temp. Quality products I believe are paramount to this hobby. This is why I am building this tank slowly, because with quality products, comes higher prices if I can't find them on ebay or craigs list. LOL!

Thanks!

I agreed with the following stated. I like to keep my tanks at 80 since for me the corals seem to like it. Also higher temperature will decrease the saturation level of oxygen so that is something to take into account. Also quality equipment is the key to have a thriving reef and will take some of the maintenance off your hands as well. Thanks

A ATO setup coupled to a fan run on a controller works amazingly well if you cant afford a chiller.

This actually works best for me since i have T5 lighting and not medal halide. Actually encouraging evaporation is a good thing since it help stabilize the pH with the atmosphere and also of course cools down the tank. I have not needed a chiller yet but will probably get one in the near future. Thanks

No experience with level loc. Sorry.

Steffen,
I am leaning towards the http://autotopoff.com/ unit. I have heard great things about this little unit and i like the price of it as well. they are as close to bullet proof as you can get. This will be my next purchase after the skimmer.

Thanks!

That one looks pretty good there!!! I would get it and try it out. I just would not recommend hooking the RO/DI unit to it. Thanks
