Sump and refugium questions

Happy turkey day!
Finally setting up my 120 gallon frag tank, 20 gallon refugium, 40 gallon sump. This will be a lagoon tank with soft corals.

I'll get right to it,
1) I currently have a mag drive 12 as a return and if it's not turned down by ball valves I'm having an issue with the display filling up a little too close for comfort. It's a 6' long rimless frag tank. So I currently have the flow turned down. I have two drains at 1.5" each going out the back down to the sump. If I kept the return flow slightly low but supplement additional powerheads would I be in fine shape in terms of turnover? I have an asm g4x skimmer also.

2) My 20 gallon refugium is fed from a maxijet 1200 from the pump area of my sump which then overflows into the beginning of the sump prior to the skimmer. Does this sound adequate? I'll try and add a picture if I can figure it out.

3) dsb or not in refugium and sugar fine sand grain side or coarser size sand? This is really a matter of opinion probably but I have been reading more likely dsb with sugar fine sand for beneficial bacteria.

Thank you!

I know electricity is not as expensive as in Ca, however heat is probably going to be a bigger issue. I would replace your mag drive with a more efficient properly sized pump, as mag drives are real energy hogs and also generate a lot of heat. It is more efficient to dd flow pumps in the tank and a smaller return pump..

If possible I myself would use one of the drains and gravity to feed it. f you keep the mag drive why not T off it to feed the refugium?
I also have a ASM G4, which I feed off one of my drains. My 300 gallon came with 6 holes already drilled in the overflow. I font use any for my return. I one to feed my skimmer. Two as drains to my socks, one as an emergency drain, one is set up for water changes, although I no longer do them. The last one will probably go to feed my mangrove tank in the near future.
