I have decided to build a new sump. But this time I am doing something different. I am using PVC board and acrylic. The front is acrylic the rest is PVC board I love this stuff easy to work with. Here are some pictures.

yes it is cheaper than Acrylic. I can buy it right here in syracuse.
The sump I am building is 14 x 14 x 40 cost me 150 and still have
a lot of board left.

Never seen PVC locally but might have missed it. How strong is it in typical thicknesses you get? How easy is it to work with? If you can make a sump with it I would think frag tanks should work.

I use weld-on 16 for PVC to Acrylic and I use Weld-On #1802 for PVC. Now the PVC is 1/2 thick easy to work with and very light.

Yes it is paper filter as the paper get dirty there is a float switch were the motor turn the paper a little at a time.

That is an awesome looking sump. I need to learn to work with acrylic. I'm currently using an AGA 15 but it fits poorly in my stand.

Wow great job! Sump looks grade A professional

What is this auto paper filter you speak of?
I see it on the sump, Did you make it? Is it like a self cleaning filter sock type thing.

Is that a faux wall in the display?

I've looked at these pictures a few times trying to figure out what everything is. It would be great to see more pictures and Id love to know how that paper filter works. That's the first of it's kind to me.

It looks like one of your overflows feeds directly into your refugium. It looks good but I'd add a float switch to turn off your return if the drain clogs. It looks like you have one pipe running from the refugium to the return section, if there's chaeto in that refugium I would expect the drain to get clogged eventually.
