Sump drain ideas

Any ideas of a way to have a drain that doesn't make a lot of bubbles? I am using a tie on filter sock.

What are you doing on the inlet of that pipe up in the overflow area?
durso setup?

You probably need to throttle back the return pump to avoid overwhelming the drain pipe and sucking air down with it..

I believe it is a Durso. The issue is when I do not have the filter sock on, I get a lot of water splashing around in my sump area and a lot of salt creep accumulates on stuff. But, I have recently switched from a Mag 9 to a Mag 7.5 for flow reasons, longer filtration time and the fact that my Mag 9 crapped out on me and I had the Mag 7.5 just sitting around. I am wondering if I can put a "T" on the end of my drain to possibly help with this.

If your outlet to your drain pipe is submerged I don't see how u would have a bunch of splashing water in the sump. Do u have a valve on your return pump so u can dial it down some more to see if u have to much flow in your durso.

Is there a lot of bubbles coming out of the drain outlet?

Maybe a video to show the splashing?

Yeah i have a sock and outlet under water and it drastically cuts down any splashing. It seems strange that yours does though.

If you had to you could put some sort of dampener at the outlet but I wouldn't risk blocking the overflow.

I haven't tried it without the filter sock since I switched return pumps from the Mag 9 to the Mag 7.

what size PVC do you use for the overflow? Maybe now that you use a Mag 9 you need a bigger diameter PVC. I could be wrong but wouldn't that allow the same amount of water to overflow but at less force?

I once put a T at the end of my drain and put 2" of pipe staight down and capped it. Then to the open end of the T i put about 6-8" of pvc and capped that as well. The pipe was about 3 quarter submerged but along the the 6-8" piece I made about 15 slits 50% of the way thru the pipe with my chop saw so a tiny bit of the slits weren't submerged and it pretty much created all the turbulence in the pipe and just water would enter the sump. I couldn't use a filter sock but wasn't worried about it anyway. I should have taken a picture.

I use 1"PVC for the Mag 7.

1" is probably fine then (thats what i use) - but i would maybe try and reduce your return with the dial like the previous post. Not as much turnover - but it may be better in the long run.

Did you see a noticeable difference in bubbles with the mag 7 vs mag 9? Or is this all new plumbing.

for my 1" drain I made a 1.5" reverse durso going into the sump and now silent as well as a lot less bubbles.

Can you show a pic or a diagram please? I have to re-plumb the sump anyway soon due to a leaky bulkhead.
