Hey everyone. Still in the process of moving from apt to a house I was thinking it may be smart to get the sump in the stand before I fill the 75 back up with rock and water. Should I buy a prebuilt system or is it pretty easy to do with just a tank and adding the baffles? Was looking at things like the emerald systems ones on brs. Any advice appreciated. Problem is I will be setting up the tank soon so the sooner I have the sump completed the better because I don't think it'd be fun adding baffles to a tank already under the stand and no room to work....

Depends on your budget. My used system has a diy sump. Works just fine, not as nice as those pre-made acrylic sumps but it'll work for now. Keep in mind room for an ATO as well.
I plan to swap out the sump later on, so I put a bunch of unions/shut off valves in my system so i can cut off the tank completely in the future.

I was thinking it might be nice to have an all in one system save me the headache. I already am thinking of drilling my tank while its broken down. Need to see if its back glass is tempered. It had a sticker saying tempered don't drill on the bottom of it, I'm hoping its just the bottom pane thats tempered. Will try the laptop / sunglass technique tonight to check. Or should I not risk it? I'm afraid of the reliability of an overflow...

Also, you can make a 5-10 gallons partitions within the sump for and ATO or leave enough room for an ATO.
Test it out and drill it if it not tempered. Having a sump has lot of benefits. Pretty easy to drill!
Im a tad confused about the first bit. Leave an empty section for ato? I get that you'd want room within the stand for the ATO resevoir but why would I need room for the ato in the sump? And I'll be adding a sump regardless :beer: however if the tank isn't tempered on the back pane then I can drill for the overflow and won't have to rely on something like this http://www.amazon.com/CPR-CS50-Over...verflow box&qid=1461266580&ref_=sr_1_5&sr=8-5 (picked the first one that popped up I wouldn't necessarily choose that model).
What I meant was if you can get a large tank for your diy sump to fit under your stand then make a built in ato resevior in the sump by partition a section of the sump. That way you don't have to buy an ato resevior and your sump area will look organized and clean.
