Sump for a 40g system- worth it?

Looks like I'm getting back in the hobby after several years off. I only have enough space for about a 40 gallon long. Based on my past experience, I'd like to use a sump to keep all of the equipment inside the stand, but I'm worried that this may not be practical due to the size of the system and space constraints.
Any thoughts / opinions / experience would be appreciated!

I have a 50 breeder(couple of inches higher than a 40 breeder) I have a 20 gallon sump underneath.

First one I made myself from a 20 gallon long, just got a 30 inch long sump from advanced acrylics.

I also have a 50 breeder and have a 20 gallon long for a sump. I had one sumpless tank and would never do it again. Too many limitations.

Sump for a 40g system- worth it?

I had a 40breeder running for half a year without a sump, just added a 20 gallon long sump and I love it. I believe with a "smaller" tank such as a 40gallon, a sump is more than worth it for the added water alone (+50% more!). AND as you know, it hides all the equipment which I love.

I say go for it!

Here's a pic of my setup (thinking of starting a build thread if your interested)
