sump for a 75 gallon

I'm in the process of building asump for my wifes 75 gallon the stand is limiting so what I have so far is 16 x12x 24 which comes out to about 20 gallons is that big enough for a 75 gallon non reef ready tank it will have a hang on back over flow . any ideas

It really depends on what you plan to have in the sump. Is it just going to be a place for skimmer, heater and other random things so they are not in the display tank? Or did you want to make part of it as a refugium? Give the group a better idea of what you have in mind and they will be able to better answer your question.

I was planning on setting it up so that iI could use it as a refugium if I so decide my skimmer hangs on the side of the sump so it would have the sock a heater and the pump to go in it and the refugium stuff my biggest concern is the volume of water since 75 tank is bigger than the 55 I have that I built a 20 gallon refugium for. I'm more worried about if the pump fails and starts siphoning down in to the sump . I had this problem with my 125 freshwater that I was sold a sump that was to small to handle the water in a power fail. the sump would be 24 long 12 high and 16 wide I have already cut the plastic but nothing is glued yet and if I need to go bigger I do have more acrylic so I can do so the reason for going with the size I did was so that if I had to pull it out through the door for some reason I could without tearing down the tank. sorry for so little info earlier I was at work.

I changed my plans. I am building the sump 36wx15lx15h by doing this I will build my own ato inside it the ato is10wx15lx15hfor a volume of about 9.5 gallons the remainder of the sump will be 26wx15lx15h for a max capacity of just over 25 gallonswith typical capacity of around 17 gallons thats about a 8 gallon cushion before it would flow over, I think that should work

Punctuation is a wonderful thing for the readers.

But anyways, to avoid the siphon down to the sump, just drill a hole in the return line just under the water level. This will break the siphon quickly and minimize the water draining to your sump. But your design looks like it will work great. Nice acrylic work.

Thanks, I'll do that . I hope to finish it this week, right now it's just taped together. I'm not much on puncuation. I type one finger at a time so I tend to get lazy on that ,my version of short hand maybe.LOL I still can't get the pictures to bust up my words like it did here .

You cAn always use a check valve too

a check valve ,I might have to see If I can find one. this is the pics of my completed sump I still have to clean the tank and then I can fire it up.
