Sump/Fuge Project

Last week, I bit the bullet and put my sump/fuge plan into action. I measured my cabinet and found that a 20 gal high AGA would be perfect. Next, I had come across an ingenious way of adding baffles without the hassle of permanently sealing them to the glass. www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_3/cav3i1/Baffles/baffles.htm
Except the weather stripping I bought from Home Depot took up 1/2 inch total when compressed which is why I only lined one side and underneath each baffle [=D>]. I bought the acrylic and had it cut by Regional Supply (total cost=$45).
My overflow was pre-fabbed (cost=$80). Downside is the drain is larger than necessary which makes it loud. The upsides are I added ~17 gals to my 45gal reef tank, all equipment is now in the sump, and my corals and anemone love the return current. All in all I'm very satisfied. My first sump works! I plan on putting sand and chaetomorpha in the central section, my fuge.

I would not take the chance of putiing pressure like that on the glass. Silicone is cheap and easy to put in.

I think the idea will works well for current controlling baffles. If you plan on adding sand and and significant amoung of live rock, I would silicone these baffles. You don't want them to fail or even move slightly.
