sump/fuge setup question

I am in the process of aquiring the items necessary for my sump in the basement. I have a question however....I am going to be using several glass aquariums for the whole setup because I already have a few. What would be the best way to connect them all together? I'm assuming that I should drill them all and connect them with bulkheads and pvc. I'll probably only flow 500gph or less and the setup will include at least 3 tanks. 1 for fuge, 1 for skimmer, 1 for pump. I am also thinking about adding another say 15 gallom tank so that Ican isolate it for water changes without shutting down the system.
Where should I put the bulkheads towards the bottom of the tank, where I want the water level to be, where?
Thanks

most sump/fuge set ups i've seen, including my own include baffles for the water to run over. I would think you'd want to set the bulheads near the top so you'd get good flow through.

maybe set one an inch higher than the next tank, then repeat it so the water would run down to whatever tank your return is hooked to.

I have a sump/skimmer/return tank in the basement, but also drilled an exit for a feed pump, which goes to a 20gal refugium, then back into the main sump through a bulkhead near the top of the glass in the return compartment.

good luck

Reduce Complexity with External Components

Reduce Complexity with External Components

I recommend that you can use an external skimmer and an external pump. That would eliminate two tanks, reduce complexity, and help control heating. Your water changes will not be effective unless you reduce unnecessary water volume.

You can use one large tank with a baffle between the refugium and water change area. The external skimmer can outflow directly into the refugium area. The external return pump can be attached to the water change area via a bulkhead.
