First off, Hi. Second, this isn't a SW related question but who knows more about sumps and the like than SW people. I have lots of FW tanks, etc.
I bought a 125gal tank that is drilled for a sump, has the sump, filter, everything together. I plan on using it for my freshwater turtles. Here is the setup.
The problem is the return pump was basically glued all the way together so the seller had to cut the pipes from the return bulkheads to the return pump in order to get the tank out as seen here.
and here
The flow to the sump is all done with soft tubing and the clamps so it came off no problem and I am able to hook back up, but the return as you can see is all PVC and splits to 2 returns.
Question #1. Can I replace the whole return with soft tubing or is hard tubing used for a reason? If so, I assume I'm going to have to rebuild most of it.
Question #2. it has corner boxes that I assume the water flows over the top ridges of the plastic corner covers and thats the cut off line. I want to use this for turtles and would like to keep the water 6" or so below the top of the tank. Would it be ok to drill holes where I want the water line to be and then water would overflow from that point into the corner boxes down into the sump?
thanks for any help. I got this today, tore down their tank and have my turtles in rubbermaid totes right now till I figure this out, so any help would be appreciated.
