sump help

consider using glass - the acrylic&plexiglass are more likely to come out and flex more (parftly because the bond with silicone isn't as good as glass). This is only an issue when the water evaporates creating a low area by the return pump increasing pressure on the baffles.

speaking of evaporation, be mindful that the area where the return pump is will be where the water level drops as water evaporates - so if it is really small it will take less time until the pump runs dry. ATO will prevent this.

when picking silicone MAKE SURE it does not have mold inhibitors in it. get awuarium safe if not sure. I'm a fan of this stuff:

it's all a balancing act :)

Measure the inside of you tank, shave idk 1/8-1/16 off the width and 4-6 off the height (depending on your needs-flow,filter medium, ect.) have the place you buy the glass cut it to your specs. hold them in place and seal them in place.

after the first piece of glass how do you silicone both sides of the 2nd piece?

how do you keep some of the glass off the bottem of the sump?

I got mine cut at a glass shop last time. If the width doesn't come out perfect, you can always go a bit diagonal. Be sure to use some sand paper on the edges so that you don't send yourself to the ER ;)

will this work its going to be a 55 gallon sump for my 135 gallon tank. will a mag 5 or 7 be better it will be 5 feet of head.

really no need for a divider between the "in" drain area and the skimmer, water level will be maintained with the other baffles, and it's nice to have the extra space if you change skimmers down the road. a filter sock on the drain always helps.

if you put the refugium in the sump, make sure you have a valve on the fuge side to drop the flow rate. with this setup I would be partial to running the drain straight down the left side into a sweeping 90 with a T going down to the fuge and continuing across the sump with another sweeping 90 into the "in section". this will keep more water flowing and reduce the noise of the T as you have illustrated above.

If I planned to build another sump, I would only silicone single baffle for my skimmer water height. The rest would be done with egg crate.
