ooops forgot.....your overflow will only suck out the water the falls into the inside box, thats why its important that you have it adjusted to the correct height. That way your water level isnt too high or too low in the tank

you can have it anyway you want it...most people want the waterline above the frame of their tank because it looks better. obviously..I mean just above it on the inside of your tank, so you cant see the waterline from the outside.
