sump pump as ato pump?

I dont see why not? Need to move water far and sump pumps are cheap and move water well...

Thoughts?

as long as it doesnt move too much water into sump before ato shuts it off, could throw off salinity over time.

This is what I'm using. Just a small 500gph pump I had laying around into a 1/4 line and into a float valve. Works pretty well.

You can definitely use it, but install a little valve (I use the TLF inline valve) to control the flow and you should be good. Otherwise, you may overfill the return area and then your salinity can get out of balance. In my case before I had the valve, my return are would overfill and I would then hear the overflow alarm going off.
