OK random_ryan and me are going to build me a DIY sump and overflow in a few weeks.. What pump and gph is good for a 46 g with a 10 gallon sump? (ps dont burn to big of a hole in my small wallet :D)

I'd shoot for something with about 150-250gph with whatever head height you're looking at. So if you get a pump with a max of 500gph at 8ft head, and you are going to have the tank about 4ft from the pump, that'd be good.

It's a starting point anyway :)

yeah the main tank is going to be about 5 to 5.5 ft above the sump. So nothing over 300gph and what pump is good?

pumps are a personal choice. I have a 29 gallon and I am using a mag 7 for returning on it. and a mag 12 for my closed loop.

Sounds fine to me. Do i need the measurement from the tank to sump or do you use a flex hose from the overflow tot he sump?

i think the flex hose from the overflow to the sump be easier. We'll make the sump and overflow at your house and plumb it and check it at my apartment if that good for you. I'll pm you when it gets closer to the day we are meeting. Just send me a list of what i need and the sizes to.
