SUMP QUESTION FOR 29g BIOCUBE

So I just noticed that at the bottom of chamber 1 mostly is at least a half inch of solid sand, is this a bad thing, should I remove it or is it cool to leave there. When I put my hand in to remove some the water got really cloudy so Im assuming that its got a bunch of bad trapped in there... TIPS?

If you got live sand that has calcium with it, then its calcium. I bought live sand and it said it had calcium so the first week my tank was cloudy even though i rinsed the sand. Even now when i vacuum the sand sometimes a cloud comes up buy with circulation pumps and a good filter it will go away pretty quick

Definitely siphon that whole mess of crap in that first chamber out. Siphon it directly to your water change disposal container, and toss it. There is probably some sand in it, but there's probably a lot of crap in there too, as you found out by stirring it up.

My preference is always to let stuff settle in the rear chambers, and then siphon them as clean as you can. That's the next best filtration other than a protein skimmer.

I mixed up some salt water yesterday so tonight or tomorrow Ill try and scoop out as much of the chamber as I can and do a water change. I guess my question would be is there any way to prevent the sand from coming back into the chamber?

Don't stir it up?

I imagine it only got back there when the display was stirred up at some point, whether that was in the beginning of setting up the tank, or doing maintenance. You can close off the lower/middle intake areas if you're concerned about it getting sand in there.

The back wall should be from top to bottom, and siliconed along the bottom, so the sand couldn't (shouldn't) have been able to get through under the partition.

Whoa, I siphoned it out yesterday and Ive never seen my bucket that dark with water... Could be a good thing for the future of my tank being happy. Gonna do it again tomorrow. Got my mp10 all dialed in on the apex too with random flow settings. Very excited to get my tank in tip top form. Main goal is to get rid of the cyano... LFS suggested daily 5g water changes for a week and low to none feeding for a while
